High School Reunion

So, I had my high school reunion last weekend. Yes, I realize that’s almost a week ago. Summation: it was really fun!

Somehow once you are out of all of that angst and hormonalness… Those people you once knew really are pretty great people. I know, for me at least, the reunion was much better than the average day at high school.

I stashed what few pics I have on Picasweb.

AOL Radio & Pandora on iPhone

Pandora

I just love AOL iPhone Radio and Pandora iPhone, Pandora is on the left, here.  They are both apps for listening to music on your iPhone.  I love my iPhone, as anyone who knows me will attest.  Recently, as a sort of birthday present to myself, I was considering getting satellite radio, mostly for the 80’s station(s) I could then pull in my car.

However!  With the addition of the AOL iPhone Radio, I can pull down free, streaming AOL radio from a 3G iPhone (I don’t have a 3G yet, but I’m now planning on it).  So, with a little $18 dongle thingie (I got a new non-fm-modulator, those things are all worthless in LA) I can pull in internet stations for whatever type of music/talk I’m into at the moment and all for “free.”  I, of course, use the term “free” loosely in that I have to pay some form of mobile bill, it might as well afford me other luxuries as well as allowing me to communicate remotely with, primarily at this point, my mother.

Pandora is a little more nuanced.  Basically, you put in the names of artists, songs, or composers you enjoy and Pandora plays those artists and then suggests other artists and songs and what not that you might like using something called the Music Genome Project.  This is not unlike Last.fm.  With this app, you can find new music, but you can’t really pick a genre like “the ’80’s” which is really what I wanted most of all.  So, its cool, but not as cool as just listening to random songs you know were vetted at one point by the brilliant public of the ’80s.

So, I’m excited.  It should be sweet, once I get my 3G iPhone tucked away somewhere.  In the meantime, I can use the radio on my wifi at work and at home (I’ll watch TV at home, silly).  Woo!  I’m nerd-excited, can you tell?

Baby Blues!

I like BBQ. If you’re interested in some of the best BBQ in LA, you should hit up Baby Blues BBQ on Lincoln in Venice, CA.  I used to visit this place fairly often and haven’t been in a bit, but its some dang good Mephis-style BBQ.  Try the stewwed okra.  I don’t even like… anything… stewwed and I love it.  Just take my word for it and hit this place up.

Work isn’t so bad…

So yeah, I had a slow month for billables.  That made work seem quite a bit better than I felt a few weeks ago.  Though, I’m sure I’ll regret it later.  We had a nice shin-dig at a partners house a week or so ago.  That was a good time.  I find that I tend to hate social situations until I am in them at which point I absolutely love them.  I gotta figure that out someday.  Anyway, here’s a pretty picture I took outside work one night late ish.

In other news, I had to take a trip home (hence the billables issue) this month.  I got to visit a Sonic (only in the airport).  I was, nonetheless, pleased.  I miss home.  Its always good to see my parents and say hey.  It was also a bit odd to “meet” my uncle’s children.  I don’t recall ever meeting them before, at least the vast majority of them.

Anyway, it was as pleasant a trip home as such trips can be.

Imogen Heap

So I’ve been listening to Imogen Heap these days.  I really forget in this world of throwaway pop, how much I simply enjoy great, poetic, picture-painting lyrics. For example:

Oily marks appear on walls where pleasure moments hung before.
They take over the sweeping insensitivity of this still life.
–Hide and Seek, Imogen Heap

Its hard to describe everything those lines evoke for me, but the imagery in my mind is clear and moving.  Anyway, the album is old, so I’m hardly hip.  The album is electronic-esque, yet also very melodic and vocal.  If you care, its available at Amazon.

Nuts

I just wanted an excuse to use this picture.  I’ll probably write a real post at some point with it.

Nuts!

Sailing… take me away… or something

I had a nice sailing trip on Saturday.  My small album may be found below.  I love my iPhone.

I feel like Long Beach is a cool area and I’ve only been about twice since I’ve lived here.  Its high-time I went down there a bit more.  I miss the aquarium and I’ve never been to the Queen Mary or the Spruce Goose.  Yet, I sailed right past them both on Saturday.  I saw some wedding pictures from the Queen Mary once and they were great.

In other news, while I was sailing:

In other news...

Venture Bros.

Venture Bros.

Am I the only one who likes this show?  One of my roommates suggests that its funny, but doesn’t really go out of his way to watch.  Another downright mocks me for being 29 (nearly) and watching a “cartoon.”  Well, I think its great.  I’d like to teach the world to … like Venture Bros.  Anyway, the new season has started, finally!  I’m so excited (for it to come out on DVD, of course).

While raving about this show, I happened to find this blog.  Its the LiveJournal page of Jackson Publick, one of the co-writers of the show.  I’m distinctly of the opinion that that name is, obviously, not his real name.  Nonetheless, I’ve used the blog to follow the production of the third season.  Its been kinda cool.
